England Coach Southee Uncertain on Ashes Availability

Tim Southee

Tim Southee's most recent Test for New Zealand was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.

England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.

The former Kiwi pace bowler is expected to be present for the first Test due to his involvement in the ILT20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.

Southee, 36, took up a role as England's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Commenting as England's team for the first of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was named, he said of his participation: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the next little while."

England bowling legend Broad had stated the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the contest, which begins on November 21.

"In my view there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," he said.

"The team's attention is firmly on our own objectives. I think the caliber of [the English] side that's heading out to the host country is excellent.

"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

But, prior to the English team travel to Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
