The Pokémon Company unveiled the world to the card series Diamond & Pearl set during 2007, showcasing the Bonsly illustration. On this artwork, the Gen 4 stone creature is shown by designer Midori Harada in a somewhat awkward situation. Here, this pre-evolution is depicted fallen and weeping. But don't misunderstand, yet. As its move the move Fake Tears, this Pokémon is trying to manipulate the other player's mood to decreasing their offensive power. Unforgettable artwork, no? Harp player Hopkins absolutely agrees. And she's got an album filled with 305 cards of Bonsly as evidence.

The Full Collection Including Rare Finds

But that isn't the whole collection also. She obtained twenty reverse holographic editions featuring Bonsly, showing the small Pokémon in reflective foil everywhere but the main image. The most valuable item, though, proves to be the PSA 6-graded reverse holo Bonsly edition. Certainly, it's not a top-graded original Charizard card. However, can you claim an amusing, close to mint Bonsly card preserved forever immortalized? I thought as much.

Origins of the Collection

Hopkins has spent much of 2025 stockpiling all available Bonsly cards from that year available on the market. She discovered regarding this discontinued card in recent months, while talking about the most infamous cards among collectors with an employee at a local shop. Crying Omanyte was considered, as was Cubone by itself at the theme park. But it was Crying Bonsly, aka card number 17, that caught Hopkins's attention.

Behind Bonsly's Look

The design of Bonsly is based by bonsai plants, that are commonly placed in planters that have drainage holes. These holes are intended to aid growth, in fact fans advise one another to drill holes in their containers if they don't already have one. They can also be positioned on low dishes lacking drainage, called suiban, and the collected moisture may assist growers style their trees to mimic natural landscapes. Bonsly represents the first type, which explains the hole.

Why Bonsly Stands Out

Although this makes sense, however, The Pokémon Company looks a bit a little too concerned regarding the hole in Bonsly. She is quick to state her love of the Bonsly card has no real value, yet that didn't stop her. The appreciation turned into a major fixation, as she acquired each available Bonsly card that she could get her hands on. She quickly got into a practice of visiting the nearby card store on a weekly basis, and earned the nickname to the employees as the Bonsly collector. The shop started putting any new Bonsly #71 cards that came in exclusively for Emily. Typically, these cards go for a few dollars, she says, approximating her total expenditure is approximately four hundred dollars just on the binder alone.

Rising Prices

Nowadays, pristine Bonsly #71 cards may reach prices of $14.99. While that is a premium price, ordinary versions are often priced at four dollars or more. This rise in cost more or less coincides with her starting point building her set, although there are probably various influences. Even though Bonsly #71 is well-known with enthusiasts, Emily's social media updates on it have attracted a huge audience. As news regarding Bonsly #71 keeps growing among more people, it's possible that their market price could keep rising. At the very least, enthusiasts mention how card market costs are climbing this year across the board.

Her Relentless Pursuit

Nothing can halt her, though.

"What's incredible is that certain fans and fans from her channel have mailed their own Bonsly cards her way to add to my collection, and I am keeping these Bonsly safe forever," she declares. Far from being alarmed, fans feel admiration and motivation by her collection.
